VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position OverviewBelieve in Me is a non-profit foundation dedicated to empowering marginalized children and first-generation college students. Our mission is to provide these young individuals with a nurturing environment, educational support, and opportunities to build self-esteem and joy in learning. The 1st Gen College Hub app is our latest initiative aimed at providing first-generation college students with resources, guidance, and a supportive community to help them navigate the complexities of higher education.
Role Overview:
We seek a passionate and skilled Volunteer DevOps Engineer to join our team. This role involves working collaboratively with our development team to streamline our software development and deployment processes, ensuring high availability and reliability of the "Believe in Me" app. As a Volunteer DevOps Engineer, you will be crucial in automating and optimizing our operations and processes, enhancing the app's performance and scalability.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate software delivery and deployment processes.
- Work closely with the development team to integrate DevOps practices into the software development lifecycle.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize performance issues in the app's infrastructure.
- Manage cloud-based services and resources, ensuring cost-effectiveness and scalability.
- Implement security best practices and monitor security systems to ensure the integrity and security of the app and its data.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and maintain disaster recovery plans.
- Stay updated on new technologies and DevOps practices, suggesting improvements to enhance system reliability and deployment efficiency.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation tasks.
- Understanding of network protocols, security, and monitoring tools.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion for non-profit work and a commitment to the mission of "Believe in Me."
- Availability to volunteer for 2-3 hours per week remotely.
