STEM Like a Girl is looking for volunteers on Saturday, Oct 5th, for a fun afternoon inspiring elementary school girls in STEM! The event is from 12:00-4:00pm but we need the most help from 12:30-2:00pm. Both male and female volunteers are welcome - no STEM background required.
Description of Volunteer Roles
- Set Up: Help set up tables/chairs, activity supplies, snacks, etc.
- Registration: Greet participants as they arrive and check them into the workshop.
- Activity Guide: THIS IS WHERE WE NEED THE MOST HELP! Help guide and support the girls through the various activities during the workshop. This includes leading them through short Ice Breaker activities, providing guidance and help during Design Challenges, and encouraging them throughout the workshop.
- Female STEM Mentors: During the mentor panel, introduce yourself and share your STEM background with the participants and answer questions in an informal setting. We welcome female-identifying mentors of all ages and stages of STEM careers.
- Clean Up: Help pack up supplies and clean up the room after the workshop is completed.
- Floater: Fill in where ever is needed during the workshop.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to excite and empower girls with knowledge and confidence in STEM to become future problem solvers and leaders.
Description
Our Parent-Daughter Workshops are designed to provide an introduction to STEM activities for 3rd-5th grade girls and their parents (or other adult caregiver) in the Portland Metro area. Many other STEM-based programs are costly, require a significant time commitment, or are targeted towards families already interested in science and engineering. We aim to make STEM activities available to ALL GIRLS and their families, in particular those who don’t have access to other programs. Our half-day workshops are a great low-cost introduction to STEM for families that might not otherwise consider science and engineering programs for their daughters. We hope to ignite a spark in both girls and parents to continue STEM activities at home and beyond.
