JOIN United Way of Tarrant County at Opal's Farm in celebration of National Volunteer Month!
Opal's Farm is a 5-acre urban farm located off the banks of the Trinity River, east of downtown Fort Worth in the Riverside Community.
Named after legendary community activist, Opal Lee, she had a dream of an urban farm providing farm-fresh, nutritious food for residents of the city. The farm addresses local food deserts and revitalizes the health of local neighborhoods.
Date: Friday, April 19th
Time: 9am to 11am
Where: 2500 LaSalle St., Fort Worth, TX 76111
Duties: Volunteers will assist with planting, weeding, harvesting, mulching, and other projects as needed by the farm.
Volunteers are encouraged to dress comfortably and be prepared to get a little dirty working at the farm. Hats and sunscreen are encouraged. The farm will provide volunteers with gloves, tools, and water. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own water bottles and snacks. A portable restroom is available on site.
Up to 15 volunteers are needed and children are welcome to participate with a parent or guardian!
Those who sign up will receive an email within 24-hrs with additional information. In the event of inclement weather, volunteers will be notified by email and text message, if the number is provided.

For more than 100 years United Way of Tarrant County has worked to improve the lives of those in the communities we serve. As a nonprofit leader, we unite companies, organizations, schools, religious institutions and city/state and local governments to address the most crucial causes to build a stronger Tarrant County. We also serve as the regional grantee for Tarrant County’s Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
As we enter our second century, we are focused on:
- Community Response - providing the basics for daily needs, disaster relief and veterans.
- Community Health - ensuring a community where everyone can be safe and healthy, with a particular focus on underserved neighborhoods, women, children, older adults and those with disabilities
- Financial Empowerment - equipping individuals with the tools for independence, from financial literacy to stable housing and transportation
- Education and Learning - preparing the current and future workforce to contribute to their own success and to their community
