VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Overview

1st Gen College Hub is seeking a dedicated and talented Volunteer Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team in developing and maintaining our comprehensive web and mobile platform. This platform is designed to empower first-generation college students by providing personalized guidance, college search tools, financial aid information, mentorship programs, and more. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology and education, with a commitment to ensuring the platform remains efficient, secure, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance and improvement of our web and mobile application infrastructure, ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end.
  • Work closely with the development team to understand the architecture and logic of the application, identifying areas for optimization and enhancement.
  • Implement and manage continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for efficient code deployment and updates.
  • Monitor application performance metrics and respond to errors and emergency problems, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Conduct security audits and perform necessary updates to protect data and maintain compliance with the latest security standards.
  • Collaborate with the technical support team to troubleshoot and resolve issues reported by users.
  • Update and maintain documentation related to application maintenance procedures, systems architecture, and deployment guidelines.
  • Stay informed of the latest technology trends and advancements to suggest and implement tools, processes, or technologies that will enhance the platform's reliability and user experience.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in web and mobile application maintenance, with a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in server-side languages and frameworks, with a preference for those with experience in Next.js, as utilized in our project.
  • Solid understanding of database management and experience with NoSQL databases, preferably MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and performance optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with web security practices, data protection technologies, and the implementation of secure authentication and authorization practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
