VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Overview1st Gen College Hub, a visionary initiative under Believe in Me, is seeking creative and committed Volunteer UX Designers to join our project team dedicated to developing a comprehensive web and mobile platform. This platform aims to support first-generation college students by offering personalized guidance, college search tools, financial aid information, mentorship programs, and more, to assist students in overcoming the challenges of college preparation.
Key Responsibilities- User Experience Design: Spearhead the creation of intuitive and impactful user experiences for the web and mobile platform, focusing on the needs and behaviors of first-generation college students.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team including web developers, content creators, and project managers to ensure the design aligns with both technical capabilities and project goals.
- Research and Testing: Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights that inform design decisions. Utilize data to refine and iterate on design concepts to enhance user satisfaction and engagement.
- Wireframing and Prototyping: Develop wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma, demonstrating functionality and layout.
- Design System Development: Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a design system to ensure consistency across the platform, including the use of color schemes, typography, icons, and component libraries.
- Accessibility and Inclusion: Ensure designs meet accessibility standards and are inclusive to all users, including those with disabilities, to foster an equitable user experience.
- Feedback Implementation: Collaborate with the development team to implement designs into the web and mobile applications, adjusting designs based on technical feedback and user testing results.
- Proven experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, or similar role with a portfolio showcasing previous design projects.
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma).
- Knowledge of user-centered design principles, usability practices, and how design choices translate in development.
- Experience conducting user research and usability testing, and turning the outcome into actionable design improvements.
- Familiarity with web and mobile app design standards, trends, and technologies.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain design choices and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
- A passion for education technology and a commitment to the mission of supporting first-generation college students.
