Aside from general volunteer opportunities, we have a variety of professional volunteer opportunities available in preparation for the Fade To Black Arts Festival 2025.

Director of Marketing & Communications

Organizing a festival is great, but it needs attendees. People need to be made aware of the festival, its activities, and how it will benefit them. They should be enticed to attend and share with others who might be interested. This role helps bring the participants in!

The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for:

Leading the Marketing & Communications Team (Social Media, Designers,

Press, Publications, etc.

Developing the strategic direction of marketing/comms.

Discovering and ensuring multiple avenues of marketing and promotion

Developing and controlling the festival imagery and branding

Partnering and advertising through media streams and ticket sales channels

Promoting the festival.

Director of Operations

The operations team makes the festival flow and significantly impacts the participant and talent experience. The Director of Operations must be objective, detail-oriented, organized, and excellent at coordinating several activities. The Director of Operations brings out the synergies within the Operations Team to ensure the festival runs safely and

smoothly.

The Director of Operations is responsible for:

Leading the strategy and deployment of the Operations Team of Hospitality, Security, Volunteers, Stage Management, Technical Managers, and Events Coordinator.

Working closely with the Assistant Festival Director to ensure vision and strategy are followed and executed as planned.

Ensuring coordination of event schedules and operational team members to be at the right time and right place to support (including volunteers and runners).

Ensuring staff and participant safety protocol strategy is developed and

implemented.

Head of Security

This is one of the festival's most critical, if not most important, roles. Ensuring safety of participants and patrons not only ensure a positive experience, but also impacts the outlook of future festivals.

The Head of Security is responsible for:

Developing, implementing, and deploying (when needed) emergency and safety protocols.

Coordinating security staff to ensure the safety of participants and patrons.

Partnering with HPD and Fire Marshalls to coordinate activities.

Ensuring security staff is trained (and certified??) on CPR and AED.

Communicating, guiding, and coaching F2B Festival Directors, Teams, and

Volunteers on safety protocols.

Volunteer Manager

Festivals need volunteers and runners to help the festival run smoothly. Volunteers are a key piece in any festival. Think of volunteers as a Production Assistant. They may be used to help or support any aspect of the festival. It is good to have an arsenal of volunteers ready to be deployed at any time.

The Volunteer Manager is responsible for:

Soliciting and securing volunteers for the festival.

Working closely with the Director of Operations and other Directors to understand where the needs are in order to strategically deploy volunteers.

Coordinating easy flow and deployment of volunteers and runners.

Events Manager & Coordinator

Outside of workshops, performances, and classes, festival participants desire to network and socialize. The Events Manager & Coordinator develops the extracurricular activities to enhance the overall experience of the participants and talent.

This person is responsible for:

Plans and coordinates events such as small networking events, meet and greets, and social activities.

Communicating social events happening around Houston.

Liaising with event locations (hotels, theatres, etc) to plan, schedule, and host events.

Directing event coordination team as applicable.
