NicerFL Resource Mentors assist newcomer refugee and other immigrant families through in-person interactions, online via Zoom, or through the Help Line. They support newcomer families in accessing a wide range of resources related to health, employment, legal services, education, and other community and agency programs. Additionally, they assist newcomer youth in navigating the college application process, providing information on admissions, financial aid, and test preparation.
NicerFL Career Resource Mentors:- Provide each refugee and new immigrant enrolled in the program with an individual career plan.
- motivate and provide guidance to participants in the career program in person and online
- provide career coaching and job search services as needed
- communicate with private and public sector employers to identify job openings that might be filled by program participants
- provide participants with orientation to work benefits and protections such as social security, payroll and wages, worker’s comp
- represent NicerFL in communication with employers and other agencies
- document the progress in career pathways in the participants file and conducts assessment of needs every month
- represent NicerFL in the community
- attend volunteer meetings and training
NicerFL Resource Mentors are:
- Culturally sensitive: The ideal resource mentor possesses a deep understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.
- Knowledgeable about resources: They have a comprehensive knowledge of available resources related to health, employment, legal services, education, and community programs, enabling them to guide and assist newcomer families in accessing these resources.
- Strong communication skills: They possess excellent communication skills, both in-person and online, allowing them to effectively interact with newcomer families.
Resource Mentor Expected Commitment:
- Regular availability: Resource mentors should be available to provide support to newcomer families on a consistent basis, whether it's through in-person interactions, online via Zoom, or through the Help Line.
- Time dedication: They commit to at least 4 hours a week of assisting newcomer families, including attending volunteer meetings, training sessions, and engaging in ongoing communication and coordination with employers and other agencies.
- Proactive approach: Resource mentors take the initiative to stay updated on available resources, services, and programs to ensure they can provide accurate and relevant information to newcomer families.
- Documentation and assessment: They invest time in documenting the progress of newcomer families in their career pathways and complete a Resource Mentor log after each meeting.

Description
NicerFL Welcome Centers, located in Pinellas Park, USF Tampa, and Sarasota, provide comprehensive integration support for refugees and other new immigrants through a network of welcoming centers. These centers serve as safe, inclusive spaces where refugees can access services, participate in programs, and connect with others. We offer a wide range of immigrant support services, including personalized intake and newcomer immigrant support planning, English language life skills and cultural integration classes at 4 language levels, family literacy projects, career coaching, referral services, resource mentoring, well-being projects, and newcomer youth academic services.
NicerFL volunteers work hard to make sure that every new neighbor is welcomed and connected to the larger Florida community where they live. We also help newcomers transition to a new life in Florida.
