Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, AmeriCorps (NDMVA) is seeking applicants to serve as a Full-time AmeriCorps Member at Catholic Academy of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, CT from August 16, 2024-June 30, 2025.
Catholic Academy of Bridgeport serves 900 students from diverse backgrounds across 4 different campuses. Job Purpose:
This position will support the academic growth of children in the classroom by lowering the teacher/student ratio. Members will work directly with students in small groups and one on one, in academic and other school programmatic settings, working in collaboration with the classroom teacher to help ensure engagement throughout the school day.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with PreK-1st grade students in the classroom alongside a lead teacher.
- Supervise daily activities including snack, lunch, recess, etc.
- Attend ongoing professional development, retreats and staff meetings
- Support with classroom management and addressing student behavior
- Collaboratively creating and implementing lesson and advisory plans with the lead teacher
- Participate in all professional development and school wide community events
- Planning, supporting, and instructing extra-curricular activities such as sports, arts, field trips, and other after school activities
- Create a safe and nurturing learning environment.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
- Maintains professional appearance.

Qualifications and Preferences:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience working with youth, preferably elementary school age
- Passion for working with children/adolescents from under-resourced communities
- Dedication to education and the advancement of students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being.
- Ability to form strong, positive relationships with staff, students, and families.
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
AmeriCorps Member Benefits:
- Subsidized housing offered by the site
- Living Allowance: Because Notre Dame- AmeriCorps is partnered with the Corporation for National and Community Service, we are able to offer our members a yearly living allowance which is distributed bi-weekly over the 11 month term. The pre-tax figure for 2024-2025 is approx. $18,700.
- The Education Award: Upon completion of a service term, AmeriCorps members receive a taxable education award of approximately $7,000. The education award can be applied to qualified student loans or future education.
- Student Loan Forbearance: Members of NDA are eligible for forbearance of federal student loans during their term of service. This means that while a member is serving, they do not make payments on qualifying loans. In addition, the National Trust will pay the interest that accrues on the loan at the end of the term of service.
- Optional Health Insurance: We provide optional free healthcare while you serve with NDA.
- Child Care: NDA members may also be eligible for child care benefits. The AmeriCorps Child Care Program covers up to the state’s local market rate for child care fees and makes payments directly to the member’s caregiver.
