Assist at Activities for Blind Youth!
Who: Braille Institute is committed to eliminating blindness and severe sight loss as barriers to a fulfilling life.
Why: Through educational training, programs, and services, Braille Institute helps tens of thousands of people each year regain and maintain their independence. Braille's educational, social, and recreational programs are provided in an environment of hope and encouragement, seeking to reinforce the confidence, self-esteem, and dignity of those who are visually impaired and enabling them to live, attend school, and work as they choose.
What to Expect:
* Assist in Braille Institute’s fun and active Youth Program
* Provide help and guidance to blind and visually impaired youth at both onsite and community activities
* Mentor emerging youth by serving as a role model
* Highlight youth independence and maximize independence living skills (ILS)
* Deliver engaging and informative messages about college, career education, and workforce development
What's Required:
* Must be at least 18 years old and high school graduate
* Ideal candidate will be energetic, excited about working with youth, and have a passion for sharing with others
* Interest in working with/learning about the vision loss community
* Excellent attendance (consistency increases voice recognition and familiarity with participants)
* Ability to be on time
* Comfortable working with youth (ages 7 to 17; mostly age 13)
* Strong soft skills including friendly communication
* Create a safe and supportive learning environment for students
* Available on select Saturdays, typically 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Description
Braille Institute offers a variety of services to people who are blind and visually impaired, from mobility and technology training, to low vision rehabilitation and home visits, to arts and exercise classes, to a vast library of braille and audio titles for every age, and more. Each year, we help tens of thousands of people regain and maintain their independence. Thanks to generous donations, Braille Institute services are available free of charge.
