Join our team as a volunteer Arabic Medical Appointment Coordinator and English Tutor! In this role, you'll assist Arabic-speaking clients in Glendora with scheduling medical appointments and providing interpretation support during calls or visits. Additionally, you'll lead conversational English sessions to enhance clients' language skills, focusing on medical vocabulary and communication confidence. Your invaluable support will empower clients to navigate the healthcare system independently and improve their self-sufficiency. Volunteer during weekday afternoons or mornings to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our community members!

RESPONSIBILIES:

  • Schedule and coordinate medical appointments for Arabic-speaking clients in Glendora.
  • Provide interpretation support during calls or in-person visits.
  • Teach clients to schedule appointments independently. Conduct English sessions focusing on medical vocabulary.
  • Build confidence in communication skills.
  • Offer ongoing support and guidance.
  • Empower clients to advocate for themselves.
  • Build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Address questions and concerns.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability: Volunteer on weekday afternoons (1-4 pm) or weekday mornings (11 am-1 pm).
  • Proficiency in Arabic is mandatory.
  • Educational background in Social Sciences, Global Studies, International Relations, Sociology, or equivalent experience in serving low-to-moderate income immigrant populations (including refugees, asylum seekers, unaccompanied minors, etc.) is preferred.
  • Completion of IRC orientation and passing a full background check (Live Scan & HireRight) is required.
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity towards the vulnerable immigrant population, coupled with a strong commitment to aiding unaccompanied minors in their adjustment to life in the U.S.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail. Culturally competent and proficient communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic about learning about the broader IRC mission, philosophy, global work, and local initiatives. Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies.
