The Poppy Foundation provides a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages who bring many different skills and interests to volunteer at our purpose driven foundation. Here's a little more about our work and needs.

On October 6, 1995, a Siamese-mix cat arrived at Bonanza Cat Hospital for evaluation when a volunteer feeding strays at a trailer park noticed this cat had a severe head tilt. Due to this medical condition and tests that showed she had FIV, it was determined she was unadoptable because she would need daily medication for her compromised immune system. Bonanza Cat Hospital became her new home and she was named Poppy.

Poppy had attitude! She delighted in standing on exam room tables and taking swipes at the staff as they passed by. She became Bonanza Cat Hospital’s "official greeter" in the waiting room with her tilted head and crooked mouth. Clients began donating money towards her care and medical needs. Poppy passed away in 2001, but she left paw prints on our hearts forever. The legacy she inspired - a rescue dedicated to the lifelong care of medically fragile and special needs cats in Las Vegas lives on.

Poppy cats will live the remainder of their lives in our care. We receive no government funding and depend solely on charitable donations, including the time of our volunteers. Our organization is run entirely by volunteers who generously provide our cats with care and love, including to feed, clean and provide our kitties with lots of love. We have cats that may be adoptable and volunteers are needed to get them ready for a home of their own. We need support with our social media, photos and outreach. As an all volunteer organization, assistance with administrative tasks is critical. And, handy folks are always appreciated to help with our building and grounds.
