Moving Health is making a documentary film about their work in Ghana building tricycle ambulances to connect the rural regions to urban healthcare centers to reduce maternal mortality rates and improve access to healthcare.

The film will center around Moving Health’s master fabricators, Ambra and Sufiyanu, who both live in the Sissala district of Ghana, where the ambulances are actually implemented. Their story inspires discussion on how we think and talk about the people who live in underserved communities around the world. The film also showcases the work of Moving Health, and serves as an inspirational narrative of how engineering and creativity can be used to build a better world.

The work will consist of reviewing and sorting raw footage and raw audio files and using this, as well as the initial concepts provided by the production team to develop a storyboard for the film. After a storyboard is developed and approved, the work will shift to editing together an initial "director’s cut." Color grading, and audio filtering are topics that can be explored if desired, but can be handled by the production team as well. The production team has also entertained the idea of splitting the film up into multiple short films. We leave this as an open question to be decided during the storyboarding process.

The results of this work is set to be submitted to the Telluride Film Festival.

About Moving Health

Location:

23 Drydock Avenue, Boston, MA 02210, US

Mission Statement

To connect families to healthcare when they need it most.

Description

Since 2016, Moving Health (formally The Okoa Project) has been redefining emergency transportation by addressing geographically neglected areas to address the health crises that these communities face every day by providing opportunities for safer, faster emergency care. Unlike other companies, our primary goal is to use human centered design to create solution that the communities actually want, making our solution more sustainable, cost effective, and reliable than alternative options.

Our work fills a desperately needed gap by providing sustainable, low-cost emergency transportation in areas that do not have any. Not only do our ambulances save lives, but our intersectional approach to global health and technology allows us to capture our impact with precision and create opportunities through learning and innovation.
