The Community School of the Arts Foundation, with locations in California and New York, is dedicated to fostering artistic talent and creativity among students of all ages. As we expand our programs and outreach, the need for an organized and efficient database system has never been more critical.

Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and passionate Volunteer AWS Database Engineer to join our team. This individual will play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing our database systems to support the operational and reporting requirements of the foundation. This volunteer position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the arts community while utilizing and expanding your database engineering skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop scalable and secure database solutions that meet the foundation's needs.
  • Analyze existing data structures and optimize them for better performance and efficiency.
  • Implement data protection and backup procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the database.
  • Work closely with staff to understand their data needs and provide technical support.
  • Generate custom reports and automate data processes to aid in decision-making and program evaluation.
  • Stay updated with the latest database technologies and best practices, recommending improvements as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in AWS database design, development, and management, with a strong understanding of database principles and data normalization.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with data security, backup, and recovery techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with non-technical team members.
  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to the foundation's mission.

Time Commitment: Flexible, with a suggested minimum of 5-10 hours per week.
