ORGANIZATION: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Park Host Volunteers are needed for a minimum of a three-month term. Park hosts duties include opening the park entrance gate and securing the gate at closing, conducting periodic walkthroughs of the park, greeting the public, and answering questions. Park hosts do not enforce regulations.


Park Hosts play a vital role in enhancing visitor’s experiences. We require a minimum of a 20-hour weekly commitment (5 days on, 2 days off). Host’s days off are either Monday & Tuesday, Tuesday & Wednesday, or Wednesday & Thursday.


Valley Oak Recreation Area is a popular takeout point for river rafters during the summer months. It also boasts 11 environmental tent camping sites. Reservations are required in advance through Recreation.gov.


While this is an unpaid position, we provide our valued volunteers with a full-hookup RV site (including electricity, water, and sewage) at no charge. Please note that Wi-Fi is not provided however, dependable cellular phone coverage is available throughout the park. The host is required to maintain a telephone at their own expense for communication purposes.
