We are looking for individuals who want to be part of a support system for our patients and their families as they transition into end-of-life. Our companion volunteers are an invaluable member of our patient’s care team. Volunteers can visit with patients, read to them, listen to music, go on walks, or listen to their stories.
All of our volunteer opportunities are flexible and can work with your schedule and how much time you are able to give!
Suncrest serves our patients and families wherever they call home. Whether that's long-term care or senior nursing facilities or private homes. We do our best to keep all our volunteers within a 20-minute radius from their homes and volunteers always have the opportunity to let us know if a location will not work for them.
In the Chicagoland Area, Suncrest Hospice serves families in Cook, DuPage, Kane, & Lake counties. We are especially looking for volunteers willing to serve patients and families in and around Skokie.
All Suncrest Hospice volunteers must be 18 or older and are required to complete a background check, be fingerprinted, and complete a TB test at no charge to you.

Description
Your Family is Our Family
The team at Suncrest treats every patient, whether they’re receiving home care or hospice care, as they would a member of their own family, with respect, dignity, and compassion. We believe our role as hospice clinicians is not only about improving the quality of life for the patient, but also for the patient’s caregivers and loved ones, with the singular goal of enhancing the lives of those we serve.
Suncrest Volunteer ProgramVolunteers are essential members of the patient’s hospice care team. Volunteers are trained to listen, care, and provide companionship for our patients during this important time in their lives. Through careful screening and orientation, our volunteers understand the hospice philosophy to provide as much comfort and quality of life to our patients as possible. They participate on the team visits which may include reading to patients, doing crafts, taking them outside in their wheelchair, accompanying them to a meal, writing letters, and sometimes simply by sitting quietly next to a patient’s bed. All of our volunteers are trained to provide companionship, and some of them bring extra areas of skill with them, such as massage, music, and energy work. A volunteer may also choose to help out with administrative tasks in the office.
