Bereavement volunteers act as part of the Summa Health Hospice staff by contacting survivors of hospice patients after the death. They provide a listening ear, emotional support and report possible complicated grief reactions to the bereavement staff. Bereavement volunteers might also assist with community-related hospice events.

About Summa Health Hospice
Location:
1077 Gorge Blvd, Akron, OH 44310, US
Mission Statement
To provide uncompromising quality care to terminally ill persons and those who love and care for them. Supportive services are delivered through cost-effective means promoting comfort, dignity, and the opportunity to live each day to the fullest."
Description
Summa Health Hospice is committed to treating the person and not the disease, focusing on quality-of-life issues affecting the patient's entire family. We use the combined knowledge and skills of a team of specially trained professionals that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, home health aides, spiritual caregivers and VOLUNTEERS. Hospice provides care and support to patients and their families in the comfort of their own home. While traditional medical care is designed to cure illness, the focus of hospice care is more comfort-oriented. Hospice neither hastens nor prolongs dying, viewing it as a natural process -- emphasizing quality of life, rather than length of life.
