Background:
Seedling Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to promote educational equity in food and STEM literacy through tailored youth programming, sustainable hydroponics products, and widespread initiatives tackling food insecurity, sustainability, and healthy living. Seedling is partnered with Baltimore City Public Schools and community-based organizations to teach children about gardening, nutrition, sustainability, computer-aided design, entrepreneurship, and more. As a social venture, Seedling also partners with local businesses to build and sell hydroponics kits, which provide educational enrichment and fund youth programming.
Summer Programs:
This Summer 2024, Seedling will be hosting in-person summer programs at the following locations:
- St. Francis Neighborhood Center : June 24th-Aug 7th, M/W, 10-11 AM, Grades 3-4
- Dayspring: June 25th-Aug 16th, T/Th/F, 10-11 AM, Grades 4-8
NOTE: There will be no sessions for St. Francis the week of July 15th.
Expectations:
- Teach a curriculum (elementary or middle school level) at your assigned program site(s) covering the following areas: gardening, hydroponics, food systems, sustainability, nutrition, CAD, entrepreneurship, water quality, and Arduino
- Attend mandatory 30-min weekly meetings with Teaching Coordinator to prepare for lesson(s)
- Coordinate with Teaching Coordinator and other teachers at location (if applicable)
- Monitor curriculum pace and report updates to Teaching Coordinator
- Assist with curriculum development and quality control (*optional*)
- Commit to at least 1 session/week (~2-4 hours/week for sessions, travel, self-prep, and meetings)
- Commit to an additional 2 hours/week of commitment for each additional session taught (e.g., 2 sessions = 4-6 hours/week, 3 sessions = 6-8 hours/week)
- Commit at least 4 weeks to Seedling
- Interview Process (1 round): Interview and mock teaching (30-45 min)
Requirements:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have High School Diploma
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have an interest in STEM, health, food, or sustainability
- Have prior experience teaching and interacting with youth
