Sign up for as few or as many Saturday morning sessions as you'd like!
You DO NOT need to commit to every Saturday!
Our SailBlind season runs from the beginning of May through the end of September. Each Saturday session runs from 9am until 11:45am. Sailors are on the water for 1.5 hours during this time.
We sail out of Community Boating in Boston, MA.
Responsibilities:
- Walk with and guide blind sailors from our meeting location (Whitney Hotel) to the Community Boating boathouse (about 1/4 of a mile distance).
- Assist sailors put their lifejackets on and storing belongings in lockers.
- Watch guide dogs (if applicable) on shore while sailors are out on the water.
- Walk sailors back to the pick up location (Whitney Hotel).
- Virtual training with SailBlind Director prior to start.
- In-Person training during orientation in April (date TBD)
- During both trainings, you will learn about blindness etiquette and Human Guide technique.
- Sign up to attend 5 sessions and receive a 30-day season Community Boating membership!
- Parking reimbursement for all visits!
- If room permits for any given Saturday, ride along in a sailboat!

Established in 1936, The Carroll Center has pioneered many innovative services for the blind and visually impaired. We have developed many methods for people with low vision to learn the skills to be independent in their homes, in class settings, and in their work places. Our services for the blind include vision rehabilitation services, vocational and transition programs, assistive technology training, educational support and recreation opportunities for individuals who are visually impaired of all ages. For over 70 years, The Carroll Center staff has provided help for the blind for thousands of blind and vision impaired persons with diverse opportunities for success and independent living.
