The Visitor Services Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring Ten Broeck Mansion tours go smoothly and providing a welcoming atmosphere for our visitors! Visitor Services Assistants duties include:
- Greeting visitors to the Ten Broeck Mansion and gardens.
- Checking in visitors for tours and helping visitors purchase tour tickets as needed. This position requires use of a credit card terminal (similar to using a touch-pad computer). Training will be provided by ACHA staff.
- Ensuring the safety and security of our visitors and collections by making sure visitors do not walk through the Mansion without a docent guide, and alerting ACHA staff of any safety and security issues as soon as possible.
- Helping the ACHA continue its programming by promoting and managing the Museum Shop.
- Helping to tidy up the Museum shop and select Mansion areas as needed.
There are also opportunities for training to deliver tours as a Museum Education Assistant (docent) for those who are interested.
Visitor Services Assistants volunteer at Ten Broeck Mansion during our regular tour season from May through October. In 2024, our tour season will be from May 16 through October 19, and Visitor Services Assistant shifts are available on the following days:
Thursdays: 9:30 am - 2:15 pm
Fridays 9:30 am - 2:15 pm
Saturdays 12:30 pm - 4:15 pm
Sundays 12:30 pm - 4:15 pm (June - August ONLY)
Currently, we are most in need of help on Thursdays and Fridays, but all volunteer help is appreciated! All ACHA volunteers agree to participate in training and follow the ACHA Code of Ethics/Volunteer Agreement.

Albany County Historical Association was founded in 1942 as a private, not-for-profit educational museum. The ACHA operates the historic Ten Broeck Mansion in the Arbor Hill neighborhood of the city of Albany, New York as a community-centered museum. We serve our community with 100% free family education programs, four acres of historic gardens, and tours and education programs based in the 1798 Ten Broeck Mansion.
