ORGANIZATION: The Iris Network

The Iris Network is a non-profit that does so much! Our mission is to help people with vision impairments, such as blindness, gain independence and community integration.

We have two programs at our Portland, ME campus that needs volunteers!

1) Assisted Living Facility

For our Assisted Living residents we would like to expand the recreation activities offered. Transportation is often an issue- but now, we have a medium sized bus! We are looking for someone who would like to transport clients to recreation activities like, going bowling, going to Scarborough Marsh for a hike and such. You'd be responsible for driving and assisting the small groups of up to a maximum of 15 people.

2) Training Center

Our Training Center hosts students ages 18- end of life who have goals to either enter or re-enter the workforce. They come from all over the State of Maine and even outside of the State and stay in our Dorm for 2-22 weeks. On the weekends, when they have no classes, we would like to offer the opportunity for them to explore Maine! We are looking for a recreation volunteer to lend a hand with driving the bus, mentioned above, and being present on the outtings.

If you are interested, please reach out! HR@theiris.org

All volunteers must be located in the New England area. We do not offer visa sponsorship for work or volunteer opportunities.
