Are you an enthusiastic and outgoing person who enjoys working with youth in grades K - 2nd?

Youth Preparedness Pedro Team Members support the Prepare with Pedro program. They provide emergency preparedness education to youth in grades K - 2nd in school classrooms by following Pedro the Penguin as he learns how to reduce the risk of disaster, prepare to respond effectively, and cope with disasters when they happen. Presentations runtime: about 30-45 minutes.

Team member roles include: Presenter, Presenter Assistant, Administrative Support, and Presenter Trainer. You are able to choose your preferred role(s)!

  • Presenter responsibilities: conduct Prepare with Pedro presentations to youth grades K - 2nd.
  • Presenter Assistant responsibilities: support the Prepare with Pedro Presenter by handing out and collecting materials from students, helping with classroom management, and grading quizzes.
  • Administrative Support responsibilities: carry out administrative duties, such as data management, inventory management, reporting collection/entry, collecting/readying presentation supplies, and responding to email inquiries about the program.
  • Presenter Trainer responsibilities: train individuals to present the Prepare with Pedro program curriculum proficiently.
You'll need to meet these important qualifications:
  • Public speaking or teaching skills
  • Weekday, daytime availability during school hours
  • Comfortable in classroom settings talking to and working with youth in grades K - 2nd
  • Ability to arrange transportation to Red Cross offices to pick up materials, travel to event location, and return materials at the end of presentations
  • Willingness to train and teach other volunteers
  • Patient, enthusiastic, and compassionate
