Corinth Trail Keeper

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Shiloh National Military Park is seeking dedicated volunteers to patrol park trails at the Corinth Unit throughout the year. Trail Keepers monitor and report trail conditions, perform light trail maintenance tasks, pick up any litter they find, and are occasionally called upon by park visitors to help share information about points of interest and wayfinding across the different sites preserved in Corinth, Mississippi.

Summers in Corinth are long, hot, humid, and buggy (ticks/mosquitoes), while winters are short, mild, rainy, and occasionally experience light snow and below-freezing temperatures. Applicants should be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Being able to walk over one mile on slippery and uneven terrain, bending and lifting, and performing light maintenance work such as cutting brush and limbs under 6" in diameter are necessary to be successful in this position. An enthusiasm for the outdoors, history, and public lands is recommended but not required.

Trail Keepers are asked to patrol selected trails at least once every two months, but may do so more frequently if they desire. Housing is not provided as part of this volunteer opportunity. Hand tools for trail maintenance are provided.
