Main Goals for This Position to Accomplish:
This position serves to complete maintenance and upkeep of Blue Ridge Parkway facilities and grounds. Preforms any general maintenance duties as assigned by Volunteer Supervisor or Volunteer Lead. All duties and work must be preapproved by Volunteer Supervisor and appear on approved volunteer work plan.
Major Duties:
• Perform minor repairs on items such as signs, milepost markers, and fences.
• Clean and paint various surfaces and structures, including signs, mileposts, fences, restroom facilities
and other areas and structures of similar difficulty/complexity.
• Remove brush, debris and litter from the sides of the motor road, within designated overlooks, around
facilities or in parking areas.
• Remove graffiti with park approved methods.
• Rehabilitate and naturalize social trails, user-created campsites, or work sites post-project.
• Utilize safety procedures and follow established safety rules and regulations.
• Use and assure proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing (e.g., safety gloves, safety glasses, dust
masks, ear plugs, etc.).
Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to interact well with the public and practice safety in all aspects of the job.
• Knowledge of the proper use and routine operator maintenance of hand tools and equipment.
• Basic understanding of cleaning, grounds maintenance, and lifting procedures.
• Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Ability to walk on uneven terrain.
