Interpretation and Education Volunteer

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Are you passionate about parks and public lands? Do you love sharing your passion for history and the outdoors with others? Are you looking to hone your people skills and work with excellent volunteers and park staff? Then the interpretation and education volunteer position is right for you!


Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is seeking a dedicated volunteer who is willing to assist with our education programs and events throughout the spring, summer, and early fall seasons. The park generally receives about 100 school visits per year and tens of thousands of visitors to our.


Responsibilities include staffing the Ray House, learning about the Battle of Wilson's Creek and its role in the American Civil War, preparing and presenting interpretation and education programs, and assisting park staff with school trips.


Musket-firing demonstrations are not required, but optional, and we offer Historic Weapons Safety Training for all volunteers who are willing and comfortable with providing a demo.


Hours of work are typically 2-4 hours a day, 1 day a week. We welcome all members of the public to apply for this rewarding volunteer position.
