Overview:

HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre is seeking a compassionate and skilled volunteer to lead water yoga sessions for individuals affected by cancer. Water yoga, known for its gentle and therapeutic benefits, offers a supportive environment for participants to find relaxation, relief from symptoms, and a sense of well-being. As a Water Yoga Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing physical and emotional support to individuals navigating their cancer journey.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting Water Yoga Sessions: Lead weekly water yoga sessions at designated times, providing gentle instruction and guidance in a supportive environment.

  2. Creating a Safe and Inclusive Atmosphere: Ensure the pool area is set up safely for participants and maintain a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere where individuals of all abilities feel comfortable and supported.

  3. Tailoring Sessions to Participants’ Needs: Adapt yoga sequences and poses to accommodate the varying physical abilities and limitations of participants, with a focus on gentle movements and relaxation techniques.

  4. Providing Emotional Support: Offer encouragement, empathy, and a listening ear to participants, fostering a sense of community and support among attendees.

  5. Assisting Participants: Provide assistance and modifications as needed to help participants safely engage in yoga poses and movements, offering gentle physical support when required.


Qualifications:

  • Certified Yoga Instructor with experience teaching water yoga
  • Knowledge of yoga principles, techniques, and modifications suitable for individuals with varying abilities and health conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate participants.
  • Compassionate and empathetic demeanor, with a genuine desire to support individuals affected by cancer.
