Do you like working with school children? Do you like telling stories? The Sugar Museum is seeking volunteer Education Program Docents who will provide educational services for elementary school children while they are here on their field trip. Docents provide a welcoming environment, and guide students through the museum.
The Sugar Museum’s Education Program teaches students about the sugar industry and plantation life on Maui, and fulfills social studies benchmarks for State of Hawaii Department of Education for second grade. You will join a pool of other docents who are called upon monthly, depending on school reservation bookings, to guide tours. Weekdays, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m., September through May, while school is in session. The Program is not active during school holidays, breaks, or intercessions.
It's easy and fun. We provide a script for you to use, and a proper training. If this sounds like a fantastic opportunity for you to teach youngsters about Maui history, contact us!

Mission Statement
The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum is a 501 c3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and heritage of the sugar industry and the multi-ethnic cultural heritage which it engendered.
Description
The story of sugar on Maui is told at the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. We are the main source for information on Maui's sugar history, and its multiethnic cultural heritage. We are located across from the historic 1902 Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company mill (now closed) in what was once the thriving plantation town of Pu'unene. The museum is housed in one of the few historic buildings remaining from that era and contains exhibits about one of the most significant and influential periods in the Islands’ history. It presents information about the sugar industry, depicts sugar’s influence on the development of Maui’s water resources, and describes plantation community life and the immigrants who came here from all over the world to work in the fields and mills. Outdoor exhibits feature large harvesting and mill equipment.
