Want to work with staff that value diverse perspectives and challenge the dominant narrative? Are you curious to know more about the magic of the ancient redwood forest? The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) is now looking for Visitor Services Volunteers to work alongside park ranger staff at Muir Woods National Monument!
VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES :
As a Visitor Services Volunteer with the National Park Service, you will:
- Work at a busy visitor contact station setting visitors up for a safe and memorable trip by answering questions about the park and swearing in Junior Rangers.
- Walk and rove trails in the park, helping visitors who may need directions, recommending trails to walk, and explaining flora and fauna of the park.
- If comfortable, conduct a 15-minute interpretive welcome talk in front of large audiences, explaining the history of Muir Woods, and its unique ecology and biology of plants and animals.
- Work with park partners, park ranger staff, and other volunteers supporting the mission of the park service.
COMMITMENTS
As a volunteer we require:
- Preferred time commitment at least 2 days a month, in 4-6-hour shifts.
- Shifts are available any day of the week, during normal business hours, from 8am until closing. There is a high need for volunteers on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday's. But any day of the week is appreciated.
- *Note that onboarding for new volunteers happens every 3-4 months, with the next tentative training date set for January 25th, 2025-Saturday, from 9-4pm, at Muir Woods. This training is essential to be brought on as a new volunteer.
