The Employment Volunteer will support the IRC-LA Employment Team with various aspects of job readiness support. Duties include but are not limited to assisting our refugee clients with workforce development, resume-building, completing new hire paperwork, and helping provide transportation to and from interviews in the Los Angeles County Area.

All activities will be done in coordination with the IRC-LA office staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support refugee families as they work towards self-sufficiency by assisting in the job search, resume-building, and interview process.
  • Assist with scheduling interviews and completing new hire paperwork.
  • Provide transportation to and from interviews in the Los Angeles County area.
  • Assist with job readiness support and literacy training.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Fluency in either Farsi, Arabic, or Russian is required.
  • Able to commit at least 2-4 hours per week for the duration of 4-6 months:
  1. Availability on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Preferably in the mornings or afternoons.
  • Must be culturally sensitive, respectful of diverse backgrounds, and willing to work with English language learners; previous cross-cultural communication experience is a plus.
  • Complete a background check and MVR report (HireRight), as required.
  • Educational background in social work or equivalent work experience serving low-to-moderate income immigrant populations (including refugees, asylum seekers, etc.) preferred.
  • Flexibility, patience, and willingness to learn/perform reasonable duties as needed.
  • Engaged in learning about the IRC mission, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.
  • Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer workplace policies.
