ORGANIZATION: DELLA LAMB COMMUNITY SERVICES

  • 9 people are interested

Volunteers are needed for childcare during Cultural Orientation classes. The classes are usually held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10am-12pm and 1 or 2 volunteers per class. Cultural Orientation teaches our newly arrived refugee client's valuable information to help them adjust to life in Kansas City. Volunteers should be flexible, open-minded, and nonjudgmental. The clients are still relatively new to the U.S. so there may be some differences in behavior/cultural practices.

*Volunteer Onboarding and Training:

Volunteers will need to pass a background check and sign privacy/confidentiality agreements to protect the privacy of clients. Onboarding/training will be provided

Description

Della Lamb Community Services has played an important role in the development of Kansas City. During its 120+ years in an ever-changing world, Della Lamb has developed a network of services which move children and families out of poverty and toward an improved quality of life and, ultimately, to self-sufficiency.

DLCS serves the needs of more than 1,500 low-income or vulnerable families in northeast Kansas City, Missouri and the urban core. This includes rent and utility assistance, food, and other emergency services. These are among the most vital and the most basics human needs.

DLCS has been formally resettling refugees in Kansas City since 2014, but we’ve been providing services to KC’s refugee population for decades! There are many ways you can help our new refugee neighbors. You can prepare a home, teach ESL or cultural orientation, or even partner with a family during the transition!
