Volunteer Shelter Dog Walkers Needed!

We are looking for people who live in the area or are visiting to come by our shelter and join us for a beautiful walk on a beach path with some of our adorable adoptable shelter dogs! Shelter live can get really lonely for these dogs, and they absolutely LOVE getting to go out for a walk.

  • No commitment needed, you can come any day you would like that there is a walk happening
  • get your steps in for the day as a benefit
  • spend some time with a loving dog, while helping them with their social and walking skills
  • make new friends (dogs & people!)
  • absolutely beautiful views of the ocean along our walk.
  • Fun for individuals, groups, couples and families! All are welcome

Mission Statement

ADLA's Mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Re-Home stray and abandoned animals wherever they are found on the island of Puerto Rico and to educate the generations of our communities in the humane treatment of all animals. Since it’s incorporation, Amigos de los Animales has been a Puerto Rico based rescue organisation since. Along with our concentration on humane rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of domestic animals and the running of our shelter, where we currently house 40 rescued dogs, ADLA conceived of and has coordinated the first ever, six day educational program conducted once a year since 2009, in collaboration with the Puerto Rico Department of Health and the New Jersey based educational organisation, Career Development Institute.

Description

ADLA’s vision is to continue to grow as an organisation to continue to act as an advocate for the humane treatment of animals in Puerto Rico and to grow our organisation to be able to do more for the community and the animals who need us. We bring humane education to our community on proper pet care by going to schools with presentations for all ages and by holding low cost sterilisation clinics for the low-income residents of Loiza and beyond. In PiƱones, where we are located, it is a local dumping ground for unwanted pets where we trap, neuter, vaccinate and release (TNR) both cats and feral dogs. ADLA does not practice nor advocate the euthanasia of healthy, non-aggressive, adoptable canines, and within the confines of our capacity we always rehabilitate and adopt our rescued pets.
