EVENT DESCRIPTION

The City of Upland is excited to celebrate our annual Fourth of July "Light Up the Night" Event. This family friendly event will take place from 4:00pm-9:00pm at Cable Airport, Upland and will include entertainment, kids zone, food vendors, and of course fireworks!

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

Registration Deadline: Friday, June 20, by 5:00PM

If you will be joining us for the event, please register as soon as possible with Erica Rodriguez at ErRodriguez@uplandca.gov.

Please include the following information:

-Name & Phone Number

-School/Agency if you need service credit

-Time that you will be able to volunteer (e.g. Set-up 8:00AM-9:30AM)

If you are under 18 and under, you can email your signed (please make sure parents sign) volunteer permission slip or bring it with you on the day of the event.

SHIFTS & TASKS AVAILABLE

Here is a list of times and shifts available. You can also work partial shift, just let us know the hours you plan to attend. Please let us know at check-in if you plan to stay longer or if you arrive at a different time:

Entire Event | 12:00PM-11:00PM (11-Hours): Volunteers may be assigned to multiple tasks throughout the duration of the event. This may include set-up, decorations, crafts, game areas, line control, flight line, recharge room, admissions, information booth, teardown, or other areas within the event site.

Set-Up Crew | 12:00PM-5:00PM (5-Hours): Volunteers needed to help with decorations and set-up: EZ-up, tables, games, and other items/decorations. Set-up crew will go to different areas such as the kids’ zone, admission, recharge room, and other areas inside Cable airport.

Flight Line | 3:00PM-9:00PM (6-Hours): Volunteers will be assigned to assist in keeping people for crossing the Fight line during the event. Volunteers will be assigned a spot to monitor along the fight line. If you are able, please bring a chair and/or umbrella to help block the sun, if you cannot bring a chair and/or umbrella a chair will be provided for you.

Craft Area| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers that are assigned to the craft area will help with kids make some fun 4th of July crafts. You may help children create their festive crafts, organize materials, and/or help with line management by directing participants and maintaining line flow.

Game Attendants| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers that are helping with games, by giving directions on how to play the games. Handing out candy and other prizes. Help keep the child safe while playing the games, and/or with line management by directing participants and maintaining line flow. Organizing game prizes, candy, and other game materials needed to play the games. Other tasks may include standing at the end of the line for the last call on rides.

Attractions Attendants| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers that are helping with attractions will be giving directions on how to enjoy and/or ride the attractions. Help keep the child safe inside the bounce house, time duration in bounce house, and/or with line management by directing participants and maintaining line flow. Other tasks may include standing at the end of the line for the last call on rides.

Stage Area Team Kids zone| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers are needed to assist recreation staff with the stage area within the Kid’s Zone. Help with directing games, and keeping kids safe near stage area, and help with other activities. Help guide activities within stage area, and set-up and teardown games and stage equipment.

Stage Area Team Main Stage| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers are needed to assist recreation staff with stage games, directing games, and helping with other stage activities. Help guide activities within stage area, and set-up and teardown games and stage equipment.

Recharge Room Team 1| 1PM - 6PM (5-Hours) /
Recharge Room Team 2| 4:00PM-10:30PM (6.5-Hours): Volunteers are helping inside the recharge room with organizing food, hand out food, clean-up, and teardown table, chairs, and other trash. Other tacks may include keeping the table tops clean, directing volunteers and staff to food and other supplies. Volunteers may be asked to take food to other areas where staff and volunteers are working.

Teardown Crew | 8:00PM-11:00PM: (3-Hours): Volunteers are needed to help with the removal of decorations, make sure supplies are packed away, help last groups of guests get through lines, and clean -up event site.

Volunteers are never charged to participate in service projects. Adults may be required to provide fingerprints prior to volunteering based on agency policies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
  • Must be at least 16
  • Orientation or Training
  • At least 6-hours, anytime between 12:00PM to 11:00PM. Just let us know the times you are interested in participating.
  • Participants interested in receiving service credit for school or work, must sign-in and sign-out. Verification forms should be submitted at check-in and will be ready at check-out. If you do not have one, we will have a form available.
