VOLUNTEER BOARD OF DIRECTORS - US REMOTE (EAST COAST PREFERRED)

Scholar and a Dream is seeking passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors and help us fulfill our mission: "to close the achievement gap and enhance the lives of students of color through scholarship, career development, and mentorship."

As the highest leadership body of our organization, the Board plays a crucial role in shaping our future and ensuring our success. You'll be responsible for:

  • Setting the Strategic Direction: Chart the course for our mission, vision, and strategic goals, leading efforts to empower student success.
  • Selecting and Overseeing Leadership: Actively participate in selecting and evaluating the CEO, ensuring strong and effective leadership at the helm.
  • Ensuring Financial Sustainability: Provide rigorous oversight of financial management and resource allocation, securing the resources needed to fuel our programs.
  • Driving Fundraising and Development: Lead fundraising initiatives, spearheading partnerships and securing resources to fulfill our mission.
  • Shaping Impactful Programs: Approve, monitor, and actively assess our programs and services, ensuring they effectively close the achievement gap.
  • Building Our Public Image: Champion our cause, advocating for our work and raising awareness of our impact through active engagement.
  • Contributing to Continuous Improvement: Continuously reflect and assess the Board's performance, striving for excellence in governance.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Passionate Leader: Bring a proven track record in education, business, philanthropy, or related fields, combined with exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
  • Strategic Thinker: Possess strategic vision and the ability to translate it into actionable plans, guiding our long-term success.
  • Champion of Equity: Demonstrate a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, believing in the power of education to level the playing field.
  • Education Advocate: Harbor a genuine passion for education and empowering students of color, fueled by a desire to make a tangible difference.

Nice To Have’s:

  • An advanced degree in education, business administration, or a related field could provide valuable insights.
  • Experience in grant writing and knowledge of the philanthropic landscape would be a game-changer.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and social media could amplify our online engagement and fundraising efforts.
