ALL individuals occupying the RV will need to submit an application. Training and orientation will be provided. **
Moores Creek National Battlefield is seeking enthusiastic, friendly volunteers to work in the park's Visitor Center (VC) during the work week and on Saturdays throughout the year! Thousands of people visit the battlefield every year, and especially on weekends, to view the site of the first decisive Patriot victory of the American Revolution and the site of the last Scottish Highland broadsword charge.
Visitor Center Hours: 9 am - 5 pm, Tuesday-Saturday
Duties include, but are not limited to: greeting park visitors, providing historical, cultural, and natural points of interest within the park and the surrounding area, answering routine questions, operating the bookstore cash register, maintaining a clean front desk and bookstore, counting visitors, explaining and providing Junior Ranger workbooks, operating audio-visual equipment, and assisting with special events.
Weather: Summers can be hot, humid, and buggy (mosquitoes). The Spring and Fall are cool with rainy periods. Winters are generally mild with occasional windy and cold nor’easter storms.
Transportation: Personal transportation (bicycle or motorized vehicle) is required to reach the park and local stores. There is no public transportation in the area.
Housing: The park has two RV pads available for volunteers who commit to no less than 4 weeks and can extend to 4 consecutive months of service. All RV occupants must work a 24 hours per week schedule minimum (3 8-hour days, or 4 6-hour days). If there is a second RV occupant, they can work the same days, if desired, or other scheduling options can be considered. EACH OCCUPANT NEEDS TO HAVE A SEPARATE APPLICATION.
Other Info: Volunteers may also participate in the parks living history program if interested. PLEASE check on your cell phone service in this area. Reception within the park can be erratic at times, the extent depending on service provider (Verizon and US Cellular work OK). Pets are permitted.
Mail can be delivered to a park provided P.O. Box at the Currie Post Office (approximately 1/2 mile from the park entrance).
