Hospice patients and their families are in need of friendly pets and their humans to visit them wherever they call home. Dogs are especially needed! Volunteers spend time with patients to offer companionship and support through their pets. Volunteers typically visit once a week. The volunteer helps not only the patient but also their family by offering them the opportunity to give belly rubs and benefit from the comfort only an animal can bring!

Joining the Capital Caring Health volunteer team will bring you in contact with other amazing volunteers. You and your pet will be joining a team which will support you and appreciate your work. We are a fun group for sure!

We provide orientation, training and ongoing support. Covid vaccination is required along with current flu vaccination. We provide TB testing and related paperwork for processing to include background check. MUST be 18 years or older.

Pets must be certified by a Therapy Pet certifying body. the American Kennel Club Good Citizenship Training is a good standard! Humans must be good listeners, compassionate people who are ready to support patients and families through the journey of advanced illness care. Our pet therapy volunteers use their trained pets to meaningfully engage patients and their families.

Volunteers are needed any day of the week and are able to make their schedule directly with the patient/family or visit our Assisted Living or Longterm Care facilities in Loudoun and western Fairfax Counties. Typically, 2 hours per week, 8 hours per month, 6 -12 months commitment is required.
