This position functions within the Division of Interpretation and Cultural Resource Management at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. The work involves assisting a NPS staff member or Ranger with an in house or public facing program and project. The volunteer will provide the work and assistance necessary to support the individual program plans for events at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park.

Major Duties

Reference and Public Service

  • Greet visitors with a cheerful manner.
  • Assist on-duty ranger with daily visitor stats reporting.
  • Assist in set-up and break-down of events including tents, chairs, tables and program supplies.
  • Restock and handout information including: Jr. Ranger program, park uni-grids, maps, pop-up program materials.
  • Assist visitors by giving directions and answering questions about the park and surrounding areas.
  • Assist staff by providing short interpretive talks or orientation overviews relating to the site or pop up program’s Reconstruction topics.
  • Assist NPS staff with interpretative projects, special events, or programs that take place on or off site.

Program Specifics

  • Prepare, research, create, and or assist a wide variety of pop-up programs related to the park’s interpretive themes that serves diverse audiences.
  • Work on resource projects such as developing media, databases, and publications as assigned.
  • Operate a variety of audio-visual equipment (white boards, projectors, cameras, scanners, etc.) and other office equipment.

Community Outreach

  • Provide community connections and coordinating efforts.
  • Help with advertising to visitors and recruiting volunteers.
