About SASA
SASA is a non-profit organization, tax exempt under IRS code 501(c)(3). SASA's mission is to counter the downward trend in Ancient Studies fields in academia, by (1) uniting graduate students to (2) engage students by guiding the widespread American interest in ancient times toward Ancient Studies, to (3) facilitate ease of access to studying the ancient world, and to (4) support and reimagine scholarship as a lifelong pursuit for those who work as professionals in other areas after receiving their PhDs.
At this time, all positions with SASA are unpaid, including management, volunteers, and interns, save for some few project positions paid for through grant funding. Since work for SASA is all done remotely, we take a proactive approach to supporting our volunteers and interns. Our goal is that work with SASA is mutually beneficial, such that volunteers help work on various SASA projects and gain experience in multiple areas, learn skills, gain knowledge, and build connections with numerous people in Ancient Studies and the nonprofit world. Interns work alongside volunteers with more experience and under the guidance of our Team Leaders and the Director. Our work atmosphere is exploratory and collaborative. We all enjoy the company of people who have varied backgrounds and interests of all ages, and who are passionate in their pursuit.

Mission Statement
The Save Ancient Studies Alliance mission is to reverse the current downward trend in the study of Ancient Studies (AS). Unchecked, this trend will lead to the abandonment of AS at colleges and universities across the USA within the next 30 years, except for some few elite and religious schools. However, there is immense value in AS, particularly as a gateway to empathetic understanding of other cultures and people, past and present. By building a grassroots movement emphasizing outreach, collaboration, accessibility, and public scholarship, we are inspiring an inclusive, flourishing community of learners and students. This will Save Ancient Studies.
Description
SASA targets individuals of all ages interested in the field of Ancient Studies and seeks to enable them to pursue their dreams and passions, no matter what their background is. We seek to bring together professionals, amateurs, students, and unaffiliated members of the wider public to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the ancient world and its pervasive influence on the present.
To accomplish our mission, our planned and ongoing projects for the next year include the following: Raising awareness of AS among high school and undergraduate students through our social media effort "Inspire Campaign"; Providing online content and tools to enable easier access to formal and informal study of the ancient world through our Live Events and Reading Groups; Developing a re-imagined, inclusive scholarly community by providing access to knowledge and learning for under-privileged groups through our Access Database and Virtual Conference; Recruiting AS students, professionals, and enthusiasts as collaborators.
