ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Welcome students upon arrival to program & facilitate the check-in process
  2. Build rapport & trust with students to become aware of any specific needs; share those needs with staff
  3. Serve snack provided by SWAG or provide approved snack if desired

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

Positive background check, patience, compassion, personable, comfort with limited use of computers, and experience working with youth

Who will be served by this assignment?

Middle and high school students and their respective parents. This position helps students transition from the school day to a daily program. Attendance records will support safety and the grant process.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?

Will help students begin the program day on a positive note. Students will feel welcome & have a place of belonging. The students have the potential to develop a trusting relationship with an adult.

What specific skills will the volunteer need?

Patient, warm personality, & comfort with interacting with youth. Only physical requirements are limited to standing or sitting.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
