Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children affected by cancer? We are looking for dedicated volunteer leaders to join our mission of providing free, fun, and supportive camp experiences to these amazing kids.

As a leader of our Day Camp program, you will have the tangible opportunity to create unforgettable memories, foster friendships, and be a source of strength and joy for campers. You'll also be part of a compassionate and enthusiastic team dedicated to empowering children to just be kids. Whether you’re looking to build your resume, gain professional references, or simply wanting to use your leadership skills in a new way, this is a unique, hands-on opportunity you’ll never forget.

About This Role:

We are seeking a Camper Care Specialist to help us support our campers’ unique needs throughout the week at Day Camp 2024. As a member of our camp leadership team, you will get the unique opportunity to help create and lead a much-needed camp experience that helps kids affected by childhood cancer receive the dedicated support they deserve.

What is Day Camp?

We are seeking a Camper Care Specialist to help us support our campers’ unique needs throughout the week at Day Camp 2024. As a member of our camp leadership team, you will get the unique opportunity to help create and lead a much-needed camp experience that helps patients, survivors, and siblings of childhood cancer build confidence and have fun.

Specific Responsibilities

Prior to your camp session, you will be responsible for working with our Program Director to review camper records, identify potential behavioral challenges, and suggest solutions to best support these children during the week of camp. During your camp session, you will serve as a member of the camp’s Leadership Team, providing additional support where needed to help children with behavioral challenges thrive in the camp environment. Most importantly, you will get the unique opportunity to help give childhood cancer patients and survivors an incredible week of camp: experiencing independence, having fun, and building friendships to last a lifetime.

Strong candidates will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • 21+
  • Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
  • Able to pass a background check (provided by Camp Casco)
  • Able to commit to the full camp session in June/July 2024 (June 30 - July 5) in Wellesley, MA
  • Experience providing childcare
  • Experience working with children with behavioral challenges
  • Kind and supportive management style
  • Great communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, such as conflict resolution
  • Not afraid to get silly and have fun to make a kid smile
  • Determined to help us make this camp session our best one yet!

Expectations & Commitment:

Most of the preparation and planning can be done remotely and around your own schedule. Applicants must be able to commit to attending every day of the in-person camp session in Wellesley, MA (June 30-July 5, 2024). Applicants should be able to commit to help with this role through the execution of the camp session in 2024.

Benefits:

  • Build Your Resume
Volunteering with us is a great way to set yourself apart from other candidates! Our camp leaders must be able to take initiative and lead, and work as a cohesive member of our team, demonstrating a wide range of leadership skills. You’ll also meet many other volunteers in a variety of industries, growing your professional network. Volunteers will also gain professional references and recommendations from the Camp Casco to strengthen your next application and help you reach your career goals.

  • Strengthen Your Skills
Serving as a leader at Camp Casco can help you use your existing skills in a creative new way. Teachers and childcare professionals may get to enjoy interacting with kids without the pressures of a school curriculum, for example, or pre-health students may learn more about caring for kids with a variety of medical needs. It can also help you learn new skills, like teamwork, leadership, or conflict resolution. Camp provides ample opportunities to develop skills that will continue to benefit you in the real world.

  • Gain New Perspectives
Camp brings together a variety of people with a variety of life experiences. You may never have seen a child with a port scar before, or heard a sibling talk about the emotional weight of seeing their brother go through countless painful treatments as a child. You will gain unique insights into the world of pediatric cancer and the many ways it impacts patients and their families. It’s also common to see a lot of kindness and joy at camp - a refreshing reminder of all of the goodness that exists in our loud and chaotic world.

  • Have A Blast!
At the end of the day, our camps are about having fun. Away from your desk and electronics, you’ll spend time laughing and getting messy, singing camp songs, and getting to know of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. It’s not uncommon for volunteers to leave with lasting memories and friendships, just like our campers do.

About CAMP CASCO INC

Location:

PO BOX 330, SUDBURY, MA 01776, US

Mission Statement

Camp Casco creates amazing camp experiences that build lifelong connections for children with cancer and their families.

Description

Camp Casco builds community for childhood cancer patients, survivors, and families in New England through amazing camp experiences. We create a space for kids to reclaim their childhood- to laugh and play. All of our campers have been affected by childhood cancer, and this unifying environment is liberating. At camp, cancer instantly becomes the least remarkable thing about you - a welcome relief for those who have felt defined by this label in everyday life.

Research shows that summer camps for children with cancer reduce disease-related anxiety, improve self-image, increase independence, build social skills, and ultimately improve psychosocial outcomes. We provide these benefits to New England kids free-of-cost, giving patients, survivors, and siblings the chance to make lasting memories and build lifelong friendships.
