The Shelter Kitchen Assistant helps to ensure efficient kitchen operations by assisting the shelter cook with daily kitchen operations. The volunteer will partner with shelter cook to:

  • Inspect the refrigerator and pantry and dispose of expired items.
  • Maintain quality standards of kitchen appliances including stove, oven, refrigerators, ice machine, etc.
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of kitchen including countertops, dishes, sinks, floors, etc.
  • Assist with the organizational system in the kitchen by sorting and storing items in their proper place when they arrive and rotating stock based on expiration dates.
  • Assist with meal preparation by gathering ingredients, cutting vegetables, and other preparatory tasks.
  • Serve lunch to shelter guests and assist with clean up after the meal.
  • Restock kitchen supplies and paper products.

Weekdays 11am - 2pm. Spanish-speaking is a plus, but not required. Share your talent for cooking and organization with this volunteer opportunity!

Please note that this is not an opportunity that is offered for community service hour completion.
