Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in New Jersey 200 years ago? Step into the past as a Volunteer Living History Interpreter at The Historic Village at Allaire!

Located in Monmouth, The Historic Village at Allaire is a living history museum that operates on the site of a once-bustling iron town known as The Howell Iron Works Co. In 1836, The Howell Works was a self-sufficient community featuring a carpentry and pattern making shop, a blacksmith shop, a bakery, boarding houses, a blast furnace, mills to finish iron products, a school, a church, a three-story general store, and row homes that accommodated nearly 400 workers and their families.

Today, The Historic Village at Allaire operates a multi-faceted living history program out of thirteen original buildings that remain on site. As a volunteer with the Village, you'll share the sights, sounds, sensations, and stories of life in early industrial America as you share the Village's story with visitors at our various homes, craft shops, and community spaces. Try your hand at cooking on a 300-year old hearth, share the classics of historic carpentry or tinning, get comfortable at the forge in our Blacksmith's Shop, teach our visitors to play 19th century games and more!
