Being an advocate is one of the most critical roles we need to fill. You can be an advocate for survivors of sexual violence through our 24-Hour Crisis Hotline or Hospital Advocacy. Help reduce the trauma a survivor experiences from sexual violence by providing unbiased emotional support and information to survivors, family members, and friends. Help survivors understand their choices and support them in selecting their options. Phone or hospital advocates responding to victims of sexual violence must present themselves in a non-judgmental and supportive manner, suggesting options but allowing the victim to decide what course of action to take.

24-Hour Crisis Hotline Advocate: Advocates provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and resources over the phone to anyone who calls our 24/7 hotline.

Hospital Advocate: Advocates support survivors of sexual violence as they accompany survivors at the hospital through the forensic exam, connect survivors and their loved ones to trauma-informed services and resources, and advocate for the survivor’s best interest. Note: Our contracts with hospitals require hospital advocates to have the flu and COVID vaccines.**

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our online volunteer application at https://www.theturningpoint.org/volunteer. Phone interviews will be scheduled upon receipt of the application. Comprehensive 40-hour volunteer training is provided by The Turning Point, and training sessions are scheduled throughout the year. Interviews and background checks are mandatory before participation in training.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Turning Point Rape Crisis Center serves survivors of sexual violence in the North Texas area. We provide free trauma counseling, medical and legal advocacy, forensic exams, and education to support survivors and end sexual violence in our community. Description

The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center of Collin County has been serving survivors of sexual violence for almost 40 years. In 2014, The Turning Point opened a satellite office to serve South Dallas in partnership with Methodist Dallas Hospital. In 2018, we opened up Courtney's SAFE place, a community-based on-site forensic clinic providing trauma-informed care for survivors of sexual assault. The Turning Point currently provides sexual assault nurse examination (SANE) and advocacy services to 12 Collin County, 3 Dallas County, and 2 college campuses located in both counties. Our current programs include individual and group therapy, support groups, case management, legal advocacy, medical accompaniment, forensic exams, and community education on the impact of sexual violence. All of our services are available in both English and Spanish, and we use an official interpretation line to serve those whose primary language is not English or Spanish.

In 2023, we served 1,528 clients, including 266 individual counseling clients, 460 forensic exams, and 601 medical accompaniments. We provided 42 clients with legal assistance and answered 1,768 crisis hotline calls. Through our education and outreach programs, we reached more than 3,200 community members.
