A Faith That Does Justice
We are seeking a skilled and proficient individual to fill the role of volunteer Bilingual Translator and Interpreter, specializing in English and Haitian Creole for our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. The volunteer will be responsible for accurately translating short written content from English to Haitian Creole and vice versa, as well as providing occasional interpretation services for verbal communication.
The role is remote.
Responsibilities:
Translation:
Translate short written documents, such as reports, questionnaires, emails, and other materials, from English to Haitian Creole and vice versa.
Ensure that translated content maintains accuracy, context, and cultural sensitivity.
Interpretation:
Provide verbal interpretation services, usually during one-on-one meetings, facilitating effective communication between English and Haitian Creole speakers.
Maintain clarity and precision in conveying messages in both languages.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Understand and respect cultural nuances to ensure that translations and interpretations are culturally appropriate and well-received.
Communication:
Collaborate with other ESOL volunteers team members, clients, and stakeholders to clarify any ambiguities and ensure accurate understanding of the intended message.
Quality Assurance:
Review and proofread translated content to ensure grammatical correctness and coherence.
Flexibility:
Be available for occasional translation or interpretation assignments. Scheduling is flexible.
Qualifications:
Fluency in English and Haitian Creole, both written and spoken.
Experience in translation and interpretation.
Knowledge of cultural nuances and the ability to navigate linguistic diversity.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey messages accurately and effectively.
Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

What We Do:
A Faith That Does Justice has four components:
Faith in Action, an initiative that emphasizes the works of mercy. We offer English as a Second Language to enable those in need of better language skills to function in the work place and society.
Community Meetings focus on social issues that affect the most vulnerable among us. These have included presentations on immigration, housing and homelessness, and racism.
Monthly Workshops that bring English speaking and non-English speaking people together to realize that committed faith ought to be lived in action on behalf of justice for all.
Communications, email and social media posting on social justice and faith topics to educate our readers and to remind and inform readers about important social justice issues such as racism and immigration.
Who We Are: We are a volunteer-run program, helping people from different faith traditions walk in solidarity with those less fortunate. Volunteering with A Faith that Does Justice allows you to put your faith into action and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate. Who We Seek: As a fully volunteer organization, we rely on the talents, skills and dedication of volunteers to carry out our mission. We ask that volunteers commit at least 2 hours per week supporting our endeavors.
