Melwood Standing Committee Needs Volunteers

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Melwood

  • 2 people are interested

Melwood is in search of volunteers to serve on its Standing Committee that is charged with protecting the safety and rights of Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA)-funded individuals who are served by Melwood.

Each volunteer applicant will be formally interviewed and required to pass a criminal background check. Upon passing these initial steps and accepting membership to the committee, volunteers must complete approximately 16 hours of mandatory, self-paced, virtual training within 60 days.

This Standing Committee meets in-person, quarterly (on the 3 rd Thursday) for 1-1.5 hours. Prior to the first meeting, there will be an orientation/training session. Members of this Committee can serve from 1-2 years, depending upon availability.

Committee members will receive all materials and documents in advance of the meeting so they are adequately prepared during its in-person meetings. Reviewing these advance materials should take no more than 1-2 hours. Maintaining confidentiality of all reviewed documents, materials contained within the plans and any related discussions is mandatory and strictly enforced.

During its quarterly in-person meetings, this Committee will:

  1. Provide feedback, rebuttal and/or approval of the previously-distributed written individualized behavior plans (developed by certified and licensed professionals). The goal of these plans it to ensure they incorporate the least restrictive techniques appropriate for the individuals in the most integrated settings;
  2. Review and discuss corporate-wide reported incidents, grievances, and behavior trends associated with these plans; as well as
  3. Ensure corrective actions are discussed and proposed regarding any incident and grievance reports to protect the rights and safety of individuals served by Melwood and its staff.

Please complete the volunteer application ( https://melwood.org/volunteer-opportunities/) and select the option for a Special Committee under the "Your Volunteer Interest" section.
