Social Media Volunteer
The West End Museum is looking for a part time Social Media Volunteer to support the museum in content creation for social platforms.
The Social Media Volunteer will be expected to create short form video content that supports our mission and brings awareness to the Museum for TikTok, Instagram, and occasionally YouTube.
The position will require a pre-existing knowledge of how to use these platforms as a creator. Additional responsibilities of the Social Media Volunteer will include writing copy for captions, moderating and responding to comments and posting several times a week across platforms (posts, stories, reels, TikToks).
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about history, community, and education.A commitment of 5-10 hours per week is required. While this position is posted as 18+, we will consider with a portfolio, a high school student with an interest in Social Media. We encourage volunteers to bring their unique skills and perspectives to enhance the museum experience. Join us in preserving the legacy of the West End and fostering a sense of community through the exploration of our shared history.
Key expectations include:
- Strong self-motivated work ethic, flexibility, and availability to commit at least 5 hrs/wk.
- Knowledge of how to use social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube as a creator.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to access and use the internet.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers.
- Ability to make connections to WEM content using the behavior and interests of social media users / potential prospects.
- Interest in history, Boston, urban cultures, built environments, etc.

About the West End Museum:
We are a Boston neighborhood museum seeking volunteers interested in the history and culture of the City of Boston, its immigrant era, and urban renewal. The Museum is a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, and interpretation of the history and culture of the West End of Boston.
You can expect to find a casual workplace of friendly Volunteers and Staff who are welcoming and eager to engage with the public. A previous knowledge of the neighborhood is not required, but an appreciation of its historical significance is helpful.
The Museum is conveniently located close to the MBTA Science Park/West End Station and North Station. Bowdoin Station is about a 10-minute walk.
