Do you want to make a difference in another person's life? Join our team, and be a force for good!

We help immigrants who want to learn English to build a life here for themselves and for their families; and Americans who didn't get through 12th grade the first time around, and are now working towards their High School Equivalency Tests.

Do you feel overwhelmed at the thought of the tragedies happening around the world, or the volume of families in this country living below the poverty line? All it takes is as little as one hour per week to make a difference! With your consistent and patient presence, you can help an English Language Learner feel comfortable communicating with neighbors and participating in the community. You can help an Adult Basic Education student get a better job, and be able to read bedtime stories to their kids.

No background in education? No advanced degrees? Don't speak another language? No problem. All you need is patience, consistency, and the desire to help. If you're at least 18 years old and you can commit to at least 1 hour per week for 6 months, we will train you how to tutor and provide all the materials you'll need. Most of our ESL students are just looking for a conversation partner; and most of our ABE students are looking for help with elementary-level math and reading comprehension. All of our students are looking for a "safe" person, who won't judge them for what they don't know, but who will applaud their efforts to better themselves and their lives!

About Nashua Adult Learning Center

Location:

4 Lake Street, Nashua, NH 03060, US

Mission Statement

Our tutorial program, in conjunction with or in place of classes, is offered to both English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Basic Education students. The adult ESL students range from just beginning to speak/understand English, to almost fluent. The ESL students generally want to work to improve their pronunciation, general conversation skills, and ability to read and write correctly in English. They also need someone to answer cultural questions. Most of our Adult Education students need help with math, writing, or reading. They are either trying to get their high school equivalency or building up their skills so they can go to college.

Description

Nashua ALC primarily provides classes to ESL adults looking to improve their English language ability. We also have classes for adults who need assistance in improving their reading, writing and math skills. Most of these student are working toward obtaining their High School Equivalency or want to improve their skills before beginning their higher education.
