The Disaster Duty Officer is a crucial first point of contact for any local disaster that requires Red Cross support. This position receives reports via our Disaster Hotline from local officials, including police, fire, and emergency management as well as clients directly affected by a disaster. It the responsibility of the Disaster Duty Officer to ask the appropriate questions to decide how the Red Cross will respond. Interactions with clients may be highly charged, disjointed, and information may be vague or limited.

When calls are received, the Duty Officer will dispatch the information to the appropriate players, including leadership and the volunteer teams assigned to respond to the disaster.
