Social Media and Photography Volunteer

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Park Rangers in creating social media posts that will enhance and encourage virtual engagement, education, and interaction with the public and transform our virtual visitors into stewards of their national parks.


Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

. Research and write posts for Facebook/Instagram about 100 words in length that include images/photographs. Topics can include the history/historic figures of Jamestown/Yorktown, facts on wildlife/natural resources found in the park, photographs taken within the park, etc.

. Take photographs around the park

. Communicate frequently with a Park Ranger who will assess posts for quality/accuracy before uploading them to Facebook/Instagram

. Report volunteer hours to supervisor


Age: No age requirement


Time Commitment: Determined by volunteer


Work Location: Yorktown Battlefield and Historic Jamestowne. Must be able to commute to the park


Knowledge/Skills/Experience Desired:

. Good writing/research skills

. Transportation to/from the park

. Knowledge of how to write for social media platforms is a plus

. An area to complete some work remotely

. An interest in the park's history and other resources

. Access to a personal computer and camera (smart phone camera is fine)
