ORGANIZATION: Foothill Family Shelter

Foothill Family Shelter is seeking a motivated and passionate person to join as a Child care volunteer. Your tasks include setting up, cleaning up child area, and watching young children while their parents are attending our LEARN program.

L.E.A.R.N stands for Life-skills, Education, Attitude, Resources and Nutrition. This program was designed for the adults in our housing to expand their knowledge on basic life skills. This is made possible with the help and support of community leaders and professionals who lead these presentations.

Facilitators prepare and present information to our clients that will help them succeed today, tomorrow, and in the future. We work with corporate partners and individuals to build a diverse speaker line-up, bringing as much value to our clients as possible.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Must pass a background check
  • LEARN happens twice a month /Thursday evenings (long term commitment preferred)
  • Must be punctual and schedule shifts with assigned supervisor.
  • Arrive early to set up play area, can bring supplies to entertain children-please check in with case manager in charge beforehand.
  • Must notify case manager(s) with enough notice if not able to make scheduled shift.

*Scheduling will be discussed with supervisor /case manager before volunteering.

The mission of Foothill Family Shelter is to assure children and adults a future by helping them acquire skills that will enable them to maintain a home, job and at the same time develop the necessary self-esteem to function as a successful stable adult.

Description

Foothill Family Shelter is a nonprofit organization founded in 1984 which houses homeless adults and children for a period of up to 120 days, free of rent and utility charges. We also provide one-year transitional housing as well as permanent housing.

The Foothill Family Shelter began as St. Mark's Homeless Shelter and currently serves as a transitional facility for homeless adults and children from the west end of San Bernardino County and the east end of Los Angeles County. The Shelter has 7- two bedroom apartments which are fully furnished and offered free for a maximum of 120 days. We also provide 16- two bedroom apartments for transitional housing and 4- two bedroom apartments for affordable permanent housing.
