About This Role:

We are seeking a CIT Leader to help us create and launch our brand-new Counselor In Training program at Overnight Camp 2024. As a member of our camp leadership team, you will get the unique opportunity to help create and lead a much-needed camp experience that helps kids affected by childhood cancer receive the dedicated support they deserve.

What is Overnight Camp?

Overnight Camp is a transformative program designed for childhood cancer patients and survivors ages 7-17. Our 2024 program will take place in Groton, MA, August 19-24. All of our camps are offered free-of-cost to our families to help combat the long-term challenges of childhood cancer.

What is the Counselor In Training Program?
Our new Counselor In Training program will build a pipeline for graduated campers and young adults to become volunteer camp counselors, providing guidance, feedback, and educational opportunities to build their confidence and skills. Our CIT Leader will be directly responsible for the creation and execution of this exciting new program.

Specific Responsibilities

Our CIT Leader will work directly with our Program Director, Camp Director, and fellow leadership to interview and select CITs to join the 2024 program. Throughout the in-person camp, you’ll provide education, guidance and support to our CITs, with a focus on building up their confidence and skills. You’ll play an essential role in helping our young volunteers become experienced camp counselors, and develop skills they can use both at camp and in the real world.

Strong candidates will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• 21+
• Fully vaccinated for COVID-19
• Able to pass a background check (provided by Camp Casco)
• Able to commit to the full camp session in August 2024 (August 19-24) in Groton, MA
• Experience providing childcare
• Experience leading groups of teens or young adults
• Kind and supportive management style
• Great communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills, such as conflict resolution
• Not afraid to get silly and have fun to make a kid smile
• Determined to help us make this camp session our best one yet!

Expectations & Commitment:

Most of the preparation and planning can be done remotely and around your own schedule. Applicants must be able to commit to attending every day of the in-person camp session in Groton, MA (August 19-24, 2024). Applicants should be able to commit to help with this role through the execution of the camp session in 2024.

It’s also common to see a lot of kindness and joy at camp - a refreshing reminder of all of the goodness that exists in our loud and chaotic world.

Away from your desk and electronics, you’ll spend time laughing and getting messy, singing camp songs, and getting to know of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. It’s not uncommon for volunteers to leave with lasting memories and friendships, just like our campers do.
