Team Lead, Salesforce Developer- Volunteer
Role Description:
The Academy for Precision Learning Advancement Department is seeking one certified Salesforce Developer who is experienced with NSPS has used communities for a project and understands the treatment of soft credits. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience using Salesforce to make a BIG impact with our nonprofit school. Implementing a Salesforce Initiative with our nonprofit will lay a solid foundation for creating a single source of truth for our philanthropic culture.
We have received the grant for the 10 licenses (NPSP) and have a punch list to implement over the next few months. We are seeking a volunteer lead Developer who can work with our team members to implement a quality Salesforce CRM experience for our nonprofit.
Our goal is to recruit five certified developers who have 3 to 5 hours each week to chip away at development.
Essential Tasks:
- Must have the ability to work in a self-directed capacity and be willing to take the initiative as well as detail-oriented, respect and maintain confidentiality, and possess an enthusiasm for the mission of the organization
- In partnership with our team, our APL team anticipates meetings with the developers on a weekly basis - PST Fridays at 10 am to 11 am.
- Must possess the ability to define and work on deadlines and communicate progress.
- Participate in the determination of organizational policies regarding such issues as participant eligibility, program requirements, and program benefits
- Contribute to writing up SOPs using Visio (we will provide a template) and or record steps to APL staff implementing Salesforce through video recordings or links to instructions using Trailblazers. Documentation is key.
- Three key projects are needed with this role:
- Set up a fundraising pipeline by month - which gets tied to actuals
- Understand soft credits, and create step-by-step documentation for our administration team members to enter. Test in reports the data pulls correctly.
- Long-term project: Use communities to set up a way to engage our board members and other volunteers with fundraising.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct activities of our Salesforce volunteer team members, identifying project scope, and timeline. Being a tester, before going live with new features is key. More importantly we need a person who is seasoned to be the resource and coach/guide.
- Our volunteers are very dedicated and work well together. Maintaining a positive work environment is highly valued.
- Evaluate the work of staff and volunteers to ensure that programs are of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ownership of all technical aspects of Salesforce, including data migrations, data quality, systems integrations, 3rd party applications, AppExchange products, and custom code
- Responsible for developing in Visualforce, Apex, Java, AJAX, and other technologies to build customized solutions that support business requirements and drive key business decisions
- Technical leadership, setting best practices including integration and application development, deployment, testing (unit and systems), and iterative refinement
- Seek out ways to utilize NPSP to improve processes and productivity, and make recommendations to support our organization scaling at a rapid pace.
- Define, communicate, and manage a change management (release) process to develop and implement new applications/code and updates to existing applications/code. We have a bug-tracking system recently installed.
- Create Salesforce reports

Qualifications & Requirements;
- A Social Security card from the US government is a requirement. This is due to privacy and that applicants will required to complete a background check. Finalists will be asked to provide references (3) following our interview.
- We are seeking an individual who has NPSP experience with Salesforce.
- 3+ years of previous development experience with Salesforce (Certified Salesforce.com Developer and Admin).
- Solid understanding of and detailed experience with Salesforce.com architecture and API.
- Detailed experience writing Visualforce and Apex classes and triggers.
- Proficiency in HTML, XML, Flex, JavaScript, ASP, SQL, Java or C++, SOAP-based web services
- Experience using Salesforce data tools (Data Loader, Excel Connector, Demand Tools, Eclipse Force.com IDE).
- Strong understanding of relational databases.
- Demonstrative success with multiple Salesforce.com integration projects.
- Experience integrating Salesforce.com with other applications via real-time, batch, sync/async.
- Experience with scripted data loader, web services, cloud or on-premise middleware, and other enterprise-integrating technologies.
- Strong business analysis and functional experience, including requirements gathering, and creating/deploying solutions to end users.
- Technical project management experience.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams.
Division of labor will be discussed, examples include:
Current support is occurring for the following with our volunteer team:
- Report Writing: we need to develop and implement reports for our volunteer fundraisers as well as show the overall dashboard.
- Gift processing: including uploading of letters, and adding donations in a timely manner.
- Data (we have a lead for this): Carefully and with lots of planning and testing, exporting from four remaining sources. Data migration is a top priority. We still have data to confirm from an employer-giving platform and former auctions and events.
- Basic Salesforce set-up: Users, email (with templates), individual giving, and total fundraising.
- Integration: We have successfully migrated to Stripe and automated our online donations to Salesforce. We also automated with Constant Contact (which required remapping once the data was cleaned up).
- Email template set-up is also completed (however we need support when adding new templates in the emails), which includes headers, and a footer with 8 to 10 sections of templates.
